The Western Vancouver Island Industrial Heritage Society restores, maintains and operates historic equipment at the Industrial Heritage Center and the Alberni Pacific Railway.
Located on 9th Ave at the top of Dunbar, the Industrial Heritage Center stores antique industrial machinery where volunteers work on restoring and operating that machinery.
The Alberni Pacific Railway, is home the #7, a 1929 Baldwin 2-8-2ST steam locomotive. Volunteers are hard at work trying to get the railway operational again, but as of now, the APR is not running in 2020.
The WVIIHS hosts the annual "Antique Truck and Machinery Show", the annual "Santa Train" and many more events. Click below to see the next event the WVIIHS is hosting.
Keeping the wheels in motion
We are a non-profit volunteer-based organization dedicated to preserving local history. We acquire, restore, and operate historic machinery and vehicles. The Industrial Heritage Center, located at the Old Arena, is a public display of such artifacts as well as a workshop to keep them in running order. We also operate the Alberni Pacific Railway, a six mile heritage railway line that takes passengers from the historic, E&N Train Station to McLean Mill National Historic Site.
